Winn-Dixie Nibble

Everyone has these great, cute little “names” for their grocery shopping posts.  Mommy Snacks calls them Snacks, Centsible Savings calls them Deals…well maybe not everyone, but I really like the Snacks 🙂   So I’m calling mine nibbles.

This is the first week since we’ve gotten here that I’ve been able to go and get the paper, try to match sales, build a VERY small stockpile, etc.     These posts are mostly for me as a price book of sorts and to get a baseline for where I’m starting to try and improve my couponing abilities.

This week (sorry, no pic) I got:

Chocolate Cream Cake Slices (6) – $1.39

Banquet Chicken Pot Pies (4) – $2.76   ($0.69 each)

Chicken Cordon Bleu (2) – $3.00   ($1.50 each)

Hamburgers (4 patties) – $2.95    ($0.75 each burger)

Canned Mandarin Oranges – $1.58   ($0.79 each)

Canned Pears – $2.00   ($1.00 each)

Simply Fruit (Smuckers) – $4.38 – $1/2 tag – $3.38    ($1.69 each)      I needed it anyway and found the only one with a taggie coupon — yeah!

Canned Sweet Potatoes – $2.78   ($1.39 each)

Canned Veggies  (Potatoes, Corn & Carrots) – $5.00 for 10    ($0.50 each)

Total Spent – $23.84

Total Saved – $8.12

Savings – 34%

Coupon Craziness 2.5

I did some digging and it looks like the K-Mart in Marathon is doing Super Doubles this week, up to and including $2.00 coupons! Yee-haw! Now I know why people get addicted to this! Well, of course I HAD to go back so I clipped all my Sunday coupons from the Miami Herald and pulled all the $2.00 coupons from my collection that I might find at K-Mart. Also, note: K-mart does not allow overages even if you have extra to pay for. Bummer.

Anyway, this is what I got at K-Mart that had coupons.

Maybelline Mascara – $4.39 – on sale for 40% off, had a $1.00 coupon, doubled. Total price – $0.63

Suave lotion – on sale for $2.50, had a $1.50 coupon, doubled (to cost of item only) Total price – FREE!

Revlon eyelash curler – $3.79, had a $1.00 coupon, doubled. Total price – $1.79. Not my greatest deal except that I didn’t bring mine.

Almay eye liner – $4.49, with a $1.00 coupon, doubled. Total price – $2.49. Hmmm…that’s higher than I thought. Oh well. C’est la vie.

Colgate toothbrush – $2.79, on sale for $2.00, plus a $1.00 coupon, doubled. Final price – FREE!

Colgate toothpaste (4.0 oz.) – on sale for $3.00, plus a $1.50 coupon, doubled. Final price – FREE!

Ziplock gallon baggies (25 ct.) & ziplock sandwich baggies – still on sale 2/$5, $1.00/2 coupon, doubled. Final cost – $1.50 each.

2 ziplock small storage containers (3 ct.) – also still on sale for 2/$5, $1.50/2 coupon, doubled. Final cost – $1.00 each.

Pledge multi-surface cleaner – on sale for $3.50, had a $1.00 coupon, doubled. Final cost – $1.50.

2 boxes of Nutrigrain bars. On sale, 2/$5, had a $1.00/2 coupon, doubled. Final price – $1.50 each.

Regular item price – $52.87
Sale price – $36.91
Coupons – $11.00
Doubled – $10.50 (no overage)
Final cost – $15.41

Total savings – almost 70%!!!

I had to go back because Dagny had thrown the only free thing I knew about in advance out of the cart. I went back for a 10 pack of Bic Silky Touch razors on sale for $3.49 with a $2.00 coupon, doubled to make them FREE!!!

I also got some more stuff at my second Walgreens trip.

First, I got some Dawn. I’m usually a tried and true Joy girl, but all’s fair in pennies & couponing :). It was $2.19 but Walgreens had a store coupon to get it for $0.99. I also had a MFG coupon for $0.50 off making the final price $0.49.

Then I got two 6 Oz. Bags of chocolate covered macadamias on sale for 2/$4. The Easysaver book had a $3.00/2 coupon making these $0.50 each! Yum!

The last thing I got was two 6 oz. Cans of blue diamond almonds. Roasted & salted if you must know :). They were normally $3.79 a can, but WG had a BOGO (sort of) coupon in their flier AND I had a $0.75/2 coupon. This made them $1.47 each.

Regular price – $20.75
Sale price – $14.77
Coupons redeemed – $9.34
P.E. RR redeemed – $2.00
Total OOP – $3.43
Total trip cost – $5.43*

Total savings – around 75%!!!

This is getting totally addicting! When the paper is only $1.25 (for the Miami Herald) instead of $1.75 (for the Detroit Free Press) and they double or even triple coupons it becomes easier and more worth the effort. I imagine in areas with Walmart’s or where the prices are less you can do even better.

*again didn’t want to double dip on the RR. I count them when earned.

Coupon Craziness 2

On Sunday, I did my coupon caper shopping.

I did pretty good at Walgreens. I only bought four things. The first was some Revlon matte collection eyeshadow. It was priced at $5.29 and I had a $2.00 coupon plus it was a free with rebate item so I made $2.00. A little more actually, since I get a 10% bonus on rebates by putting it on a Walgreens card.

I also got a package of Huggies diapers (34 ct) for $9.99 and had a coupon for $1.50 off, plus I got a $1.00RR. I can also submit this for a Caregivers Marketplace rebate of $0.75. Final price = $6.74. Not as good as some, but since I’m just starting out, I’m not overly concerned. Average PPD is about 20 cents.

I also got 2 boxes of Lightdays pantyliners (48 ct) on sale 2/$6. I used two $1.50/1 coupons I got by requesting a sample and got $1RR. Final price = $1.00 each.

Original price – $25.76
Sale price – $21.38
Coupon used – $6.50
Total due – $16.38
OOP – $0.00 (I used a previous WG rebate gift card)

Total saving (with rebate) – almost 68%!

At CVS, I only picked up 2 things, well 3 if you want to get technical. I bought some Maybelline mineral foundation for $9.99 & some concealor for $8.49. Total was $18.48. I had a $3/1 coupon. Total after coupon = $15.48. Because I bought 2 items, I got $10 in ECB’s. Final price $5.48 (or about $2.75 each).

I also bought a bottle of St. Ives body wash on sale for $2.99. I used a printable coupon for $2.00 from their website and got it for a $0.99!

Total value – $22.47
Sale price – $21.47
Coupons used – $5.00
P.E. ECB’s used – $2.00
Total OOP – $14.47
ECB earned – $10.00
Total trip cost – $6.47 *

Total savings – almost 70%!

I also ended up with some unexpected K-mart goodness that I didn’t realize until I got home and looked at the (remnants) of the receipt.

Among other things, I bought a swifter mop kit and some wet and dry refills. The starter kit was $9.99 and I had a $2/1 coupon from a mailer – That they DOUBLED!!! So it was only $5.99!

They also had refills 2/$7. I had a $0.50 coupon from the same mailer that they also doubled. So I got the refills for $3.00 each. Nothing special there but the doubling was unexpected so I felt the need to include it.

* I didn’t want to count previously earned ECB’s twice so I omitted them from trip cost.

Packing it all in…

For our complete packing list, click here.   It’s hosted by Google Docs in its entirety.

I meant to get pics of all the last minute stuff that went in the van (there was a lot of it), but I never got that far.   To busy–we prepared to leave until 9 pm the night before!

That said here is all the stuff we packed into the camper.

Over the kitchen table:

This is where we keep all of our books, movies, craft stuff, paperwork, coupons, & miscellany.

The kitchen:

Above the stove is where the canned goods and spices are kept.

Above the sink are our dishes.

Under the sink is where we keep the electric frying pan, the crockpot, the electric kettle and a small amount of canned goods.   The drawers (the first is one of those “fake” ones), have the silverware & kitchen utensils, the linens and misc. junk.

Not pictured, under the stove, is another cabinet which perfectly fits the toaster oven.

There is a cabinet above the fridge which has things like cleaners, the dustpan, toolbox, etc. in it.

We weren’t sure how cold the nights would get so we packed lots of blankets.   Last night was the first time we used any of them since we stayed at the truck stop in Alabama.    Those, along with extra diapersand wipes are above the bed, packed tight:

Our clothes were the biggest deal.    I don’t know where they would have gone in the little camper.   They barely fit in this one– I had to buy a set of drawers for Al and Dagny as it is!

My closet:

I also have a drawer under my closet.   The other drawer is Dagny’s & the door under that is for extra shoes.   To the right of that is a junk drawer and I think the door under that will hold all the toys that are cluttering up the other surfaces.   It’s the only unclaimed space so far.

Al’s closet:

Here are the drawers that Al uses with the cabinet on top:

I guess my summary of this post is that the list linked above is a LOT of stuff and more meant for a larger camper OR being a minimalist in a small rental space/home.   If you were camping for a weekend, or even a week, you would not need as much as we brought.   I came prepared for being down here for the long hall – like 6 months or so.
